Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups shredded chicken (rotisserie or leftover)
- 6 cups chicken broth (homemade or store-bought)
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper (or to taste)
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 cups cold water (for thickening slurry)
- Refrigerated or homemade biscuits (8 biscuits)
- Salt (optional, to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Bake biscuits according to package instructions or make homemade biscuits.
- Simmer chicken and broth: In a large pot, combine shredded chicken, broth, onion powder, and black pepper. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Make the slurry: In a bowl, whisk flour with cold water until smooth.
- Thicken the gravy: Slowly pour the slurry into the boiling chicken broth while stirring constantly. Reduce heat to medium and cook for 5 minutes until the gravy thickens.
- Taste and adjust: Add salt if needed and stir in more black pepper for flavor.
- Serve: Split biscuits and pour hot chicken gravy over them. Add a sprinkle of parsley if desired.
Notes
- Use rotisserie chicken for a quick and flavorful option.
- For thicker gravy: Add more flour slurry.
- For thinner gravy: Stir in additional warm broth.
- For a spicy twist, add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
- Make ahead: Store gravy separately from biscuits for easy reheating.
